Agribusiness giant equips school computer room

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA May 20, 2015 – Pupils were in for a surprise at the start of the new term at Nampumba Private School in Mpongwe district last week with the opening of a new computer room by the school’s benefactor Zambeef Products Plc.

The company has provided eight new computers to furnish a new computer room, with 24 more to follow.

“Zambeef believes in the importance of educating the children of both its staff and the community, and this new computer room takes that vision a step further by equipping students skills they need to succeed in the digital age,” said Zambeef farming division general manager Mike Lovett.

The 32 new computers are an added advantage for the students who are required under new curriculum rules to undertake compulsory computer classes for grade 10 entrance exams.

Students can now look forward to a strong chance of passing their exams and continuing the school’s record of high pass rates.

The school, which is entirely funded by Zambeef, has been the district’s pride with a 91 percent and 100 percent pass of grade nine and seven respectively in 2014.

Home to 350 pupils, 14 teachers and 3 support teachers, the school runs classes from grade one to grade nine.

Zambeef has been championing education in the community and this Zambeef School has over the years produced many excellent students. These have moved on to pursue further education. Some have also returned and are now part of the Zambeef workforce.

According to the principal Phillip Nzunga, the school’s aim is to produce well rounded and responsible students who will contribute positively to society at large.

“We are very proud of our students because they have excelled wherever they have gone and we have had no problems having them accepted into government schools for further education,” he said.

The principal commended Zambeef for its continued support over the years added that both Zambeef employees and the community at large have benefitted, not only from the school but also from other services the company has provided.
