March 15th, 2019

Elated ‘Win a Bull’ competition winners get their prize after weeks of anticipation.

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The wait is over for 10 lucky Zambeef customers who scooped the top prizes of a bull each in the company’s Win-a-Bull competition.

Chief Executive Officer Francis Grogan presented the excited winners each with a cash prize of K10,000 – the equivalent of the market price for a bull – at a function held in their honour in Lusaka.
The company received thousands of entries from shoppers at its 160 retail outlets.

“Our customers are the most important part of our business. And that is why it is so important for Zambeef to appreciate our loyal customers through competitions such as this. It is a measure of how important our customers are that we have the prize winners and their families from every corner of Zambia – from each of the 10 provinces – to be with us today to share their happiness and success in the competition,” said Mr Grogan.

Mr Grogan said that since the inception of Zambeef in 1994, the company has seen phenomenal growth of its retail footprint, customer numbers and basket of cold chain and dry goods on offer at its retail outlets nationwide.

He further said that as a company born and bred in Zambia, Zambeef is fully committed to supporting the Zambian agri-business value chain and that when customers buy from Zambeef they are supporting the local farmers and helping boost the local economy.

“We need everyone in this great nation to stand proudly for our Zambian businesses and buy Zambian. When you are faced with a range of products no matter whether it is beef, chicken, pork, dairy, flour, bread, shoes or any other item, I urge you all to choose the one made in Zambia; the one that creates Zambian jobs, creates wealth for our citizens the one that helps to build the our country,” said Mr Grogan.

Gastine Kapopo (Central), Golden Hambula (Lusaka), Memory Mangala (Luapula), Nicoletta Katulwende (Southern), Mutale Mungalu (Northern), Joseph Tembo (Eastern), Mwelwa Mututwa (Western), Rabecca Nalungwe (North-Western), Mulala Sikota (Muchinga) and Eric Mwanza (Copperbelt), were ferried into town at the expense of their host who took care of all the traveling and accommodation costs.

Although unable to collect the actual bulls owing to the current temporary government ban on cattle movement across the country in efforts to mitigate livestock disease control such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), the group were still thrilled to opt for the cash and proceeded to make plans as to how they would utilize it.

“My dream has come true this morning! When this competition started we thought it was a joke. Some people were telling us that the winners have already won. But today, we have seen for ourselves from all the ten Provinces K10,000 is not a joke! At least we will have somewhere to start our lives,” said an excited Headman Chiboshi of Chibombo – Mr Gastine Kapopo – who delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the winners and was encouraged by the wife to enter the competition from the start.

The competition, which ran from September, 2018 to January, 2019, saw an estimated 500,000 entries from its outlets in all ten provinces. Twenty other customers each received K2,000 in Zambeef shopping vouchers, learning the happy news through phone calls from the Zambeef team during the draw, which was streamed live on social media and overseen for fairness by auditors from Grant Thornton.

To enter, customers had only to spend at least K50 on Zambeef dairy, pork poultry or beef products – readily available in its butcheries. Entrants then filled the back of the receipt with their details and dropped it in the entry box at 96 participating outlets. Each Zambeef receipt was equal to one entry and customers could enter as often as they wished.

Shopping voucher winners were: Phillimon Phiri, Tabley Sabantu, Patrick Kasongo, Laureen Longwe, Patson Mukwta, Kephas Matibula, Kephas Matibula, David Bwalya, Christine Mutolo, Bornwell Kabulubulu, Vincent Siachibondo, Ephraim Mwale, Elizabeth Mwanza, Ireen Chilombo, Conrad Muzeta, Judith Simutami, Neria Nzonzi, Silvia Tukombe, Idah Manchishi and Jacob Chisala.
