12 May 2025, Lusaka, Zambia: At the invitation of British International Investments PLC (BII), formerly the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC PLC), Zambeef Products PLC (Zambeef) Chief Executive Officer, Ms Faith Mukutu, participated in high-level discussions with legislators, policymakers, regulators, and investors in the United Kingdom during the last week of April 2025. She also held one-on-one meetings with various stakeholders.
Reflecting on the tour, Ms Mukutu remarked, “It went extremely well. Zambeef values the opportunity to build and strengthen strategic partnerships in an effort to showcase the opportunities for investment in Zambia.”
The engagements focused on Zambeef’s socio-economic contributions to Zambia and the support provided by BII towards advancing this strategic agenda. Ms Mukutu highlighted Zambia’s significant potential in key sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing, and acknowledged the government’s recent strides in debt restructuring and infrastructure development as solid foundations for accelerated growth.
In meetings with UK parliamentarians and senior government officials, Ms Mukutu comprehensively outlined Zambeef’s micro and macroeconomic impact on the Zambian economy. Building on the momentum of the $100 million investment announced in July 2022, Zambeef’s Board and Management remain steadfast in their commitment to implementing strategy, tackling challenges, and seizing new opportunities for growth.
Despite facing external challenges such as climate change, energy constraints, water security issues, and currency fluctuations, Zambeef has shown remarkable resilience, continuing to feed the nation during testing times. Ms Mukutu spoke on the company’s substantial role in job creation and economic transformation. With its “farm to family” model, Zambeef directly employs 8,000 people and supports over 260,000 indirect jobs across its value chain. The company contributes more than 1% to Zambia’s GDP, positioning it as a key driver of national development.
Human capital development remains a core priority for Zambeef. The company places strong emphasis on in-house training and promoting gender diversity. The appointment of Ms Faith Mukutu as the first female Zambian CEO of Zambeef underscores its dedication to recognising and uplifting deserving employees. Women currently make up 20% of Zambeef’s total workforce, with 30 – 40% representation in the Retail Division and support departments.
In the 2024 financial year alone, Zambeef empowered over 100,000 small-scale farmers, having paid nearly ZMW 6 billion for grain and livestock over the past three years. Currently, Zambeef sources 30% of its milk supply from local dairy farmers; 40% of its total procurement on domestic suppliers, and 60% from international sources. The company remains committed to creating lasting impact and transforming as many lives as possible.
Sustainability, particularly through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, remains the cornerstone of Zambeef’s operations, ensuring that its farms and facilities continue to operate smoothly and responsibly.
“We are truly humbled and delighted to serve the wider community,” concluded Ms Mukutu, expressing her heartfelt gratitude to Zambeef’s consumers and customers, who remain the cornerstone of the company’s growth and enduring purpose to positively change livelihoods.
