Food company celebrates International Women’s Day with Beit Cure

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Sick children at the Beit Cure Hospital in Lusaka received a gift of nutritious food from female staff at Zambeef yesterday (March 8) to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The food company donated items including long-life milk, drinking yoghurt, chickens and eggs to the hospital’s children’s ward in recognition of the Women’s Day theme of ‘promoting inclusiveness in economic participation as a means of sustainable development’.

“As Zambeef, we place great value on people, and strive to operate as a useful and effective part of our local communities by supporting various community initiatives, especially in health and education. In doing, so we hope to deliver sustainable long-term results and real benefits to the communities in question,” said Zambeef secretary Ivy Mundu, who organised the donation.

Zambeef takes a ‘triple bottom line’ approach to its sustainability and is committed to ensuring a positive social, environment and economic impact. The food company runs and supports several health initiatives, for example the clinic at its Mpongwe Farm, provides quality health to both staff and surrounding community.

“As Zambia’s leading cold-chain food retailing company, we have had the privilege of working with female suppliers across the country and have witnessed first-hand the capacity and capability of women to contribute to the agriculture sector and the country as a whole. This applies to every other sphere where women are making an impression,” said Ms Mundu, who also said that true sustainable development could only be achieved when every part of society is included and women and children are an integral part in achieving this development.

“Children, they are the most vulnerable in our communities and we have a duty and responsibility to safeguard their welfare. As women, your disposition as nurtures and caregivers allows us the privilege of being at the forefront of carrying out that duty,” she added.
